Per-Session RUM Pricing Models 2026
Most RUM vendors price per 1,000 sessions. Published rates range from $0.50/1K (Sentry) to $4.50/1K (Datadog and Dynatrace with replay). Structural comparison of how Datadog, Dynatrace, Sentry, Raygun, LogRocket, and AWS CloudWatch RUM differ on the per-session meter.
The per-session-rate league table
| Vendor | Per 1K sessions | Replay model | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS CloudWatch RUM | ~$0.10 | Bundled free | Per-event ($1/100K); ~10 events per session |
| Sentry (base) | $0.50 | Add-on ($3.75/1K) | Plus Team subscription floor |
| Raygun Basic | $0.80 | None | In-tier; overage $2/1K |
| Dynatrace (basic) | $2.25 | Add-on ($2.25/1K) | 35-day retention |
| Datadog RUM | $4.50 | Bundled | Annual; $6.75 on-demand |
| Dynatrace + replay | $4.50 | Add-on combined | Match Datadog at full replay |
| LogRocket Core | $6.90 | Core product | Replay-first tool |
The structural choice: bundled vs add-on replay
The single biggest structural difference between per-session vendors is how they bill session replay. Two models exist:
- Bundled. Replay is included in the per-session rate. Datadog and AWS CloudWatch RUM use this model. Customer pays one predictable rate regardless of replay coverage.
- Add-on. Replay is a separately-billed feature. Dynatrace charges $2.25/1K for replay on top of $2.25/1K for basic RUM. Sentry charges $3.75/1K for replay overage above the included Team-plan allowance. Customer pays less when replay coverage is low, more when it's high.
The crossover point is around 60-80% replay coverage. Below that, the add-on model is cheaper. Above that, the bundled model is cheaper. Most teams run 10-30% replay coverage in practice, the add-on model is cheaper for typical operational workloads.
The free-tier vs paid-floor distinction
Sentry and Raygun have published per-session rates but also subscription floors. Sentry's $0.50/1K is the marginal rate but the floor is the Team plan at $26/month annual. Raygun's $0.80/1K Basic is actually packaged as a flat $80/year for 100K sessions; below 100K you still pay the $80, above 100K the overage rate is $2/1K.
Datadog, Dynatrace, and AWS CloudWatch RUM have no subscription floor, pure per-session billing. AWS CloudWatch RUM in particular has no committed minimum, which makes it attractive for very-low-traffic workloads where the floor on Sentry/Raygun is wasteful.
The annual-commit discount story
Most per-session vendors offer 15-25% off the marginal rate for annual prepayment. Sentry publishes 17%; Datadog discounts but doesn't publish the percentage; Raygun's Basic plan is effectively annual-only at $80/year. The annual commit becomes operationally meaningful above ~100K sessions/month, where the saving compounds to hundreds or thousands of dollars per year.
